Tree Pruning Workshop on Sunday April 1st

Christopher Bale, a horticulturalist from the UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research, will be holding an hour-long tree pruning workshop at the gardens on Sunday, April 1 at 2:00 pm.

Please meet at the tool shed.

See you there. Bring your questions.

Hello Pine Street Gardeners,

Please review the below information and updates regarding the 2012 AGM
and general garden info!

The Pine Street Community Gardens AGM has been confirmed for Sunday
February 26th, 10:00am-12:30pm

Location: meeting room 115 at Kits Community Centre – 2690 Larch
Street in Vancouver.

Agenda for this year’s AGM: (we hope to see you all there!)

1. Sharing garden success stories
2. Director’s report
3. Financial report
4. Update on signs and shed development
- review and vote on proposed signage mockups
- discuss plans to improve shed and surrounding areas
5. Discuss concerns addressed by the City of Vancouver (COV)
- Review attached COV Community Garden Renewal 2012 Feedback
6. Elections for new board members and section reps
7. Vote for garden clean-up dates

**If you have any additional items you would like to discuss at the
AGM, please feel free to let us know via email in advance, or feel
free to bring your questions/concerns to the meeting.

Please feel free to bring snacks for the meeting to share with
attendees!

Reminder:

Membership fees are due by March 15th. If you are not returning to the
garden this year, please let us know as soon as possible.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR GARDENERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO GET INVOLVED BY
BECOMING A SECTION REP OR BY JOINING THE BOARD!!

Section Rep: If you are regularly at the garden over the growing
season and don’t mind taking on a little extra responsibility to help
the garden run better, please consider becoming a section rep.We are
looking for two representatives for each side (Garden and Orchard).We
are a big garden (2 city blocks!), so we needa couple extra hands to
keep things running smoothly.

The section reps will:

-Be the eyes and ears of the garden.Make sure that members are
gardening their plots and keeping them and the surrounding areas
tidy.When an issue arises, they will send a nice (at least the first
time) email to the gardener(s) of the plot.

- Ensure that garden members in their section attend at least 3 work
parties throughout the year by tracking attendance.

·Be the first point of contact for members in their section.

Board Members: We are also looking for more board members.This is a
good opportunity to get more involved with the garden and help make
things happen! We will be holding elections at the AGM.

We are looking forward to a great gardening season in 2012 at the Pine
Street Gardens.

The Pine Street Community Gardens, established in 2006, runs for two blocks along side the railroad tracks on West 6th Avenue between Fir and Burrard. The western block of the gardens, what we call the Orchard Side, is one of Vancouver’s only urban orchards, featuring apple, pear, plum and many other varieties of fruit trees. The east block, or Garden Side, of the gardens is home to over 40 vegetable and garden plots. We are excited to be part of the Kitsilano community and we welcome everyone to use our newly created public garden space.
